I’m a user experience and product designer.
I’m an independent consultant who works with clients to make websites and web applications easier to use by improving information architecture, interaction design, and overall brand experience. Usually, this involves a combination of data crunching, user interviews, goal-setting, and working with your design and product teams.
Prior to striking out on my own, I directed website, intranet, content management, and search engine operations at the NYC Department of Education. Before moving to New York, I was a technology advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives, where I focused on providing live video to the public and creating great search engine experience.
I edit CitizeNYC.com, a website about New York City.
I’m interested in the shift of both civil discourse and journalism onto the Internet, so I founded CitizeNYC to see how such a shift might play out in New York. I’m also a freelance journalist, blogger, and essayist; my work has appeared on the web for The Guardian, the London Independent, Newsweek, and more.
I’m a passionate advocate for some great causes.
Most everything I do, both professionally and in my spare time, is meant to have a positive impact on society. I’m passionate about marriage equality, civil rights, education, poverty, good government, journalism, and civic participation, among other things.
I like meeting new people, so let’s talk.
We should talk. You can find me on Twitter, Tumblr, Foursquare, LinkedIn, Flickr, and elsewhere. I like to have some connection with people before becoming Facebook friends, but you can check me out there, too. Feel free to e-mail me.
